Hat Trick of Awards for The Black Hole

Integrated response agency The Black Hole walked away from this year’s ‘Chip Shop Awards’ with the prestigious Chairman’s Award, a winner’s ‘Chip’ and a runner up ‘Vinegar’ in a triumphant night held at London night-club Fabric on Wednesday 10th June 09.

The Chairman’s Award, chosen by chair of the judging panel Dave Trott of CST Advertising, went to the agency’s winning entry in the category of ‘Best Use of Plagiarism’ which turned an iconic Economist ad on its head to promote The Sun:

Would you like to sit next to an Economist reader at dinner? Didn't think so

The runner-up ‘Vinegar’ award in the category of ‘Best Public Awareness’ went to The Black Hole’s campaign ‘Would you notice?’ highlighting how easy it is to miss spotting that your drink has been spiked:

Would you notice

For Karl Stones, Executive Creative Director at The Black Hole:
“The Chippies are just a great way to express raw, unrestricted creativity. The trick is not to take them, or yourself, too seriously. In saying that, picking up Dave Trott’s Chairman’s Award is a real pat on the back for the agency and its talent. The guys put forward some great ideas and it was a belly-laugh, as always.”

Dave Trott, Chairman of the Judging Panel and Creative Director, CST Advertising, said:
“I think the purpose of the Chip Shop Awards is to take the p***. That’s why, for me, the best thing in this year’s Chip Shop Awards was The Sun posters. Remember The Economist poster that said: “Would you like to sit next to you at a dinner party?” Urbane, charming, witty. Here, The Sun poster says: “Would you like to sit next to an Economist reader at a dinner party? Didn’t think so.” Not so urbane, witty and charming. More vulgar, crass and p***-taking. All the reasons we love The Sun.”

"The Chip Shop Awards 2009" The Chip Shop Awards are international creative industry awards which offer creatives or wannabe creatives the chance to demonstrate the strength of their ideas - without the need to follow any rules. It offers agencies from across the world the opportunity to produce work for clients they would like, but don’t have, or to submit campaign ideas which didn’t get selected by clients.
